NORDIC LADY crew:

Gary and Laurie

Gary and Laurie Rainthorpe, after eleven years of operating one of the most successful sailing charter yachts in the Eastern Caribbean, have moved to a motor yacht “Nordic Lady”. Originally hailing from Canada, Laurie and Gary left the cold north for the brilliant blue seas and sunny skies of the Caribbean. Hardworking and experienced people, crewing charters in the Caribbean is the perfect compliment to Gary and Laurie’s love of the ocean, adventure, good food and fine company.

Captain Gary comes from a professional background in Human Resource Management as Director of Human Resources at The Toronto Hospital. Past Commodore of the Fairport Yacht Club in Ontario, Canada, and a certified NAUI scuba diver, Gary has been in the boating community all of his life. His appetite for adventure kept him active in powerboats, sailboats and professional auto racing circuits for years. He has an Offshore Certification from the Canadian Yachting Association and has skippered many blue water yacht deliveries. Gary’s love of boating can be traced back to the early days of helping his father with the family marina and building boats as a pastime. Today, Gary enjoys tailoring his extensive knowledge of the island waters, and special areas to visit, to the individual desires and interests of his charter guests. These interests are wonderfully varied, from learning to sail, to island hiking and exploring, and to swimming and snorkeling the crystal clear waters. Gary’s greatest pleasure is bringing dream vacations to life by personally customizing a relaxed and carefree cruise for each guest he happily welcomes aboard “Nordic Lady”.

Chef and First Mate Laurie enjoyed the professional life as both a Certified Equestrian Instructor and the owner and operator of a successful Accounting Practice. Past Commodore of the Fairport Yacht Club in Ontario, Canada, and a certified PADI scuba diver, Laurie has pursued her passion for boating since childhood. A graduate of the Canadian Power Squadron, Laurie is fully competent in the operation of both large powerboats and sailboats. A knack for good old-fashioned home cooking combined with a zest for exotic cuisine has forged Laurie’s culinary talents. She has continually upgraded her skills by attending culinary institutions and special diet education. As someone who formally planned professional corporate functions, Laurie takes great pride and pleasure in her catering. As such, Laurie personally designs every charter menu to reflect the preferences and dietary requirements of each of her charter guests. Most of all, Laurie enjoys capturing the essence of the Caribbean in the atmosphere she creates, ensuring that a fun and relaxed time is had by all who come aboard “Nordic Lady”.
