Peter Island

Peter Island in the British Virgin Islands offers secluded beaches and dramatic views, all without the push of commercialism seen on many of the other islands. Located directly across Sir Francis Drake Channel from Road Town, Tortola, Peter Island is well known for its upscale resort (Peter Island Resort and Spa).

You will most likely enter the island through Sprat Bay, a popular and well-equipped area. Other anchorages include Little Harbour and Great Harbour, both of which offer overnight moorings protected from the waves. Great Harbour, along with Key Bay, offer excellent snorkeling opportunities, and White Bay is named after its long white sand beach.

Peter Island BVI

Deadman’s Bay is one of the most romantic beaches in the world. The curved sandy beach is lined with seagrape trees and coconut palms. The bay itself is carpeted in seagrass, a perfect hiding location for the green sea turtle. Deadman’s Bay offers a protected harbor, as long as there is no northern swell. Evenings on the beach come alive as a steel drum band plays and everyone gathers to dance on the sand. “West Indian night” is every Monday, where dancers, known as moko jumbee, dance on stilts.

Peter Island offers plenty of activities including mountain biking, water sports, a botanist trail, and thirty dive sites. The Willie T floating restaurant is nearby and the old Baltic Schooner offers underwater “drinks” for the adventurous.
